PHNOM PENH, March 5, 2026 — Cambodia will hold the 10th River Festival in Kratie province from March 27 to 29, as part of the government’s strategy to diversify tourism and promote river-based destinations across the country.
Organised by the Ministry of Tourism with approval from the Royal Government, the event will take place under the theme “Green River, Cultural Heritage and Grand Nature.” The three-day festival will feature cultural performances, exhibitions, sporting activities and tourism showcases designed to attract both domestic and international visitors to the northeastern province.
Kratie is hosting the event for the second time since the River Festival was first launched there in 2015, when Cambodia introduced the initiative to promote eco-tourism and economic development along the Mekong and other major river systems.
The River Festival rotates annually among provinces located along Cambodia’s major rivers, highlighting the cultural heritage, natural landscapes and tourism potential of riverine regions. Since its inception, host provinces have included Stung Treng, Kampong Cham, Tbong Khmum, Kandal, Kampong Chhnang, Battambang, Kampong Thom, Siem Reap and Takeo.
Officials say the festival also serves as a platform to promote environmental awareness and sustainable management of river ecosystems, encouraging public participation in protecting waterways that support fisheries, agriculture and tourism.
Last year’s three-day River Festival in Takeo province drew 358,994 local and international visitors, reflecting the event’s growing role in boosting domestic travel and regional tourism.
Kratie, located along the Mekong River and known for its Irrawaddy dolphin habitat and riverine landscapes, is expected to showcase its cultural traditions, natural attractions and local products during the upcoming festival as Cambodia continues efforts to expand tourism beyond its traditional destinations.
