PHNOM PENH, March 3, 2026 – Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn conducted a working visit to Paris on Feb. 25 at the invitation of France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot, according to a press communiqué posted on the official Facebook page of Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC).
The communiqué said the two ministers discussed strengthening bilateral relations and advancing cooperation across priority sectors, including defence, energy, agriculture, health, new technologies and cultural heritage preservation, with reference to promoting projects involving both public and private sectors.
On cultural cooperation, the ministry said both sides welcomed progress in the rehabilitation of the West Mebon (Mébon occidental) at the Angkor temple complex in Siem Reap, with completion referenced for November 2026.
The talks also addressed preparations for the 20th Francophonie Summit, which Cambodia is scheduled to host in Phnom Penh in November 2026. According to the communiqué, France which currently holds the presidency of the Summit indicated that a French minister-delegate is expected to visit Cambodia in support of preparations.
The ministry said Barrot commended Cambodia’s efforts to combat online scams.
On Cambodia’s border issue with Thailand, the ministry said Sokhonn thanked France for its support for peaceful settlement efforts and for providing archives, maps and historical documents to facilitate understanding of border delimitation. Both ministers reaffirmed the importance of resolving disputes peacefully in accordance with international law, the communiqué said.
