ASEAN Secretary-General Meets Cambodia’s Sun Chanthol on Investment Pipeline and Regional Connectivity

ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn met Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol on March 3 in Phnom Penh, with talks focusing on investment promotion, infrastructure planning and regional supply-chain resilience, the ASEAN Secretariat said.

PHNOM PENH, March 3, 2026 — ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn met Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice-Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia Sun Chanthol on Tuesday on the margins of the Cambodia–ASEAN Business Summit 2026 in Phnom Penh, according to the ASEAN Secretariat.

In a statement, the Secretariat said the two discussed Cambodia’s investment promotion policies and infrastructure pipeline, along with regional connectivity, supply-chain resilience and sustainable industrial upgrading.

The meeting took place during the two-day summit, which is aimed at strengthening economic integration and attracting investment into ASEAN member states.

Cambodia has outlined an extensive transport and logistics development agenda under its Comprehensive Intermodal Transport and Logistics System (CITLS) Master Plan 2023–2033, which lists 174 priority projects with an estimated total investment requirement of approximately US$36.7 billion, including inland waterway and logistics upgrades. The Secretariat’s reference to an “infrastructure pipeline” did not specify particular projects.

No joint statement or memorandum of understanding was announced following the bilateral engagement.

The discussion comes amid broader regional efforts to reinforce supply-chain resilience and industrial upgrading as ASEAN economies navigate external volatility and competitive pressures in manufacturing and logistics sectors.
